November 25, 2022 by Jason. P0401 is a very common OBDII trouble code that’ll pop up in the Ford Explorer. It has to do with the emissions system and stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)→ Insufficient Flow. The EGR system in your vehicle is responsible for recirculating exhaust gasses in order to lower the vehicle’s emissions output.
1. To install, reverse the removal. Vehicles with PCM security shield. 2. Tighten the shear bolt until the shear bolt head is sheared off. All vehicles. 3. Rkuga11 Discussion starter. 6 posts · Joined 2021. #1 · Jul 12, 2021. Had a new EGR fitted to my 2011 Diesel by my normal excellent Mech. Ford now issue an EGR without the sensor. For some reason Ford removed it. Had to take the car on to a Ford dealers to see if it required and up date. EM light remained on until update.
2010 2.0 TDCi 140 EGR valve. Got an 'engine malfunction'. I plugged in the fault code reader and it seems to point to the EGR valve. If I need to unplug it or clean/replace it that's not a problem, however I cannot find the damn thing anywhere on the engine! normally they look like a flying saucer (from the older days) with a vacuum pipe, but I
Remove two screws that hold EGR cooler and valve together. Pry locking pin and disconnect coolant hose. Remove screws that attach valve to the engine. There are 2 or 3 of those, depending on your cars production year. Gently remove the valve from engine bay. Press on the yellow latch and disconnect engine breather.
